Analysis of the Electricity Transmission Grid in North Jutland
Business Region North Denmark has commissioned a report on the North Jutland electricity transmission grid. The report was released in early October.
The analysis outlines the expected trends in electricity consumption and electricity generation in North Jutland, in relation to the development of capacity in the overall electricity transmission grid.
Here are some key points from the report:
– There are many energy projects in the works in North Jutland. Renewable energy production, particularly from solar power plants, is growing rapidly.
– The analysis indicates that the electricity transmission grid may face capacity constraints in the coming years. This applies in particular to the municipalities of Brønderslev and Frederikshavn, but potentially also to Vesthimmerland, Rebild, and Thisted.
– In particular, if all planned projects are carried out, this could put a strain on the transmission grid in large parts of the region.
– Energinet is planning a long-term expansion of the transmission grid in North Jutland, partly in light of the many renewable energy projects planned for the region.
– However, the analysis also shows that the timing of the expansion could prove problematic. A large portion of the planned energy projects is expected to be completed over the next 5–6 years, while Energinet’s potential projects—which could strengthen the power grid—are not expected to become operational until after 2030.
– Efforts are currently underway to co-locate energy production and energy consumption, including through the establishment of state-run energy parks. This co-location will help create a better balance between electricity production and electricity consumption, which can reduce the strain on the power grid.
– A robust electricity transmission grid remains important, however, in part to ensure stability in, among other things, future PtX production.
