On Friday, September 9, Minister of Business Simon Kollerup signed a national partnership agreement for CO2Vision. The partnership agreement endorses the project and paves the way for a green business venture for companies in North Jutland in the fields of CO2 capture, utilization, and storage.
By signing the partnership agreement during a visit to the Port of Hanstholm, one of CO2Vision’s test sites, Minister of Business Simon Kollerup is sending a clear signal that North Jutland should take the lead as a business beacon in the fields of CO2 capture, utilization, and storage of CO2.
– “With this partnership agreement in hand, we are now taking an important step toward making North Jutland a leader in CO2 capture. This will benefit both local jobs and economic growth,” said the Minister of Business and Industry in the ministry’s press release.
More Than Just a Business Venture
CO2Vision offers the business community in North Jutland significant new opportunities and, thanks to its growth potential, holds promising prospects for employment. In addition, the project helps put Denmark on the world map as a leader in CO2 capture and supports Denmark’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest.
– Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) is one of the key climate solutions of the future. “It is quite simply absolutely crucial that we succeed in this if we are to turn the climate challenge into climate potential for Denmark,” says Michael Lundgaard Thomsen, Managing Director at Aalborg Portland A/S, which is part of the consortium behind CO2Vision.
Building on a proud tradition
In its press release regarding the new partnership agreement, the Ministry of Business and Industry emphasizes that North Jutland is particularly well-positioned to develop a green business venture centered on the capture, transportation, utilization, and storage of CO2. This is due in no small part to the extensive knowledge that already exists in the region and that Aalborg University is continuously developing.
– To scale up the green transition to a large, industrial level, new technologies and a skilled workforce capable of developing and applying these technologies in practice are essential. Aalborg University has been conducting research on new green technologies for many years, and we train engineers who are ready to take on this challenge in Danish companies, says Rector Per Michael Johansen.
CO2Vision brings together partners such as Aalborg University, Green Hub Denmark, Erhvervshus Nordjylland, Aalborg Portland, Business Region North, the Central/Northern Labor Market Office, and Energy Cluster Denmark.
– It is a strong consortium that is already fully engaged in the initiative, with the 11 mayors of North Jutland, the chair of the regional council, and the board of Erhvervshus Nordjylland closely monitoring the effort, and where research institutions such as Aalborg University and North Jutland businesses are key players,” explains Mogens C. Gade, chairman of Erhvervshus Nordjylland.
Facts about the partnership agreement
The purpose of the partnership agreement is to establish a framework for the strategic and coordinated development of the North Jutland business hub in both the short and long term. Among other things, this involves:
– Work to ensure that the Business Lighthouse develops a position of strength for Denmark that makes the country more skilled, greener, and wealthier, and whose international potential is realized through the development of successful Danish exports and the attraction of foreign investment.
– Formulate common objectives for the further development of the business hub.
– Address barriers to the Business Lighthouse’s progress and explore new opportunities.
– Consider the need to launch additional initiatives that can help develop the business hub.
– Coordinate follow-up on the recommendations of the North Jutland Growth Team.
– Promote coherence.
